First Track Day

Back from the trip and try to tune the car. One of the local club members
looks at the jetting on the Weber 34/36 DGAV and notes the mains are tiny
compared to his Cortina. We also noted there was an internal power pump.

Today, Friday, is Club Lotus Northwest’s track day at Portland International
Raceway. On the track the car was a dog. Way to rich on the lower end and way to
lean at anything above 4000 rpm. We get Jay Ivey (a well known Formula Ford
Engine Builder) to take a look. He immediately rips out the tiny mains and the
internal power jet, installs some fat mains and sends me back on the track.

This time things are much better. The car pulls harder and will actually pull
past 4000 rpm! I’m still shifting early (5000) as the engine has under 5 hours,
but this is a blast. More carb work still needs to be done but the day is
running out. When some of the other things are sorted I’ll return to the carb
jetting.
