The major fiberglass work on the body is done, although theoriginal estimate was way off. The damage to the left side doorwas more extensive than originally thought and the gel-coat wasso severely cracked it made more sense to remove it.

Body after Fiberglass Repair

The body has been moved to Phantom Restoration for paint preparation and eventual painting. In the Phantom shopwere 2 Aston-Martin DB4s, a Jaguar 120 (?) and 2 Lotus Elitesin the midst of restoration. When the body is done, I expect it to be a bit nicer than the”daily driver” I’d been originally aiming for. This means I’m rethinking the rest of the car so that it will be in line with the quality of the body. What used to look pretty good is now looking shabby next to the new stuff. The new wiring harness has arrived. The original was insuch bad shape there was no way for me to follow the wires inorder to duplicate the original.

The gauges are being sent off to Mo-Ma Instruments (1321 2nd StNW, Albuquerque, NM 87102, (505) 766-6661 ATTN: Margaret Lucas ) at the end of this week. I’m sending in the Speedo for cleaning and testing, and the fuel gauge and oil/water temp for restoration. The dash refinishing is coming along nicely. The chipping off of the old varnish took a bit of effort but I did manage to save the old veneer. There are a couple of small defects that(hopefully) will not be too noticeable after refinishing and mounting all the gauges. My first refinish was with a high gloss varnish. The dash looks great but is a bit too shiny. I think I will sand this down and apply a satin varnish to make the finish look closer to the original.   The original steel wheels were badly rusted inside and not very round.  After much debate I decided to purchase a setof Panasport wheels <picture> instead of repairing orreplacing the steel wheels. If I do decide to go back to steelI can either have mine cleaned and trued or buy are manufactured set.
