I’ve been trying to track down a small oil leak and I think Ifinally found it. First a story. When I did the 4-speed to 5-speedconversion, I askedif there was supposed to be a gasket between the gearbox and thebellhousing. The answer from the web was no. Well, it seems thereshould be. One of the operating rods for the transmission pokesthrough the front of the case and carries a small bit of oil withit every time you move the shift lever. Without the gasket it runsdown the front of the gearbox an onto my garage floor. It lookslike I’ll be pulling the engine out this winter. Maybe I’llget the header Jet-Hot coatedat the same time.

The engine assembly is done. The biggest delay was waiting for cam
shims to be shipped from the parts supplier. It is too bad the
local auto parts stores don’t carry Lotus Twincam cam shims. I
also spent some time painting inside the wheel wells and the
interior of the car.
The body came home from the paintshop yesterday. The color is exactly what I wanted and makes the silver bumpers pop out.

I took several pieces of the chrome and putt hem on the body. While they are in good shape, the fresh paint makes the chrome look old. Looks like I’ll be visiting the chrome shop. Many people have asked what the color code or mixing formula forthe paint is. These numbers mean nothing to me but here they aredirectly off the can.:
