To get myself in proper Roman Britain spirit, I’m reading they mystery “Get Out or Die” by Jane Finnis, which I picked up at the Left Coast Crime conference. It takes place in about 90 AD, and is about a Roman colonial woman who is trying to fend off an anti-Roman group that is murdering Roman travelers. She runs the local mansio – a waystation/pub/lodge for travelers. It’s a fun read, and the author’s credentials lead me to believe that she got the history right!
