Wheel clearance

I went out today and drove the car a bit more aggressively than I have in the past couple of weeks. Not too fast but up a notch in order to find more items for the ever present punch list. Of course I found another. When cornering to the right at a moderate pace I heard a bit of a noise. When I cornered again, the noise was definitely in the rear and rotating. Great! What did I forget?

After I got the car home, I put it up on stands and poked around the rear suspension. What did I find? The left rear wheel would contact a washer on the lower rear a-arm bolt. An easy fix with the dremal tool. Taking a little of the washer off gave a lot more clearance to the wheel. This is a classic clearance issue when using the Panasport wheel with an early Elan and I’m glad it was an easy fix.
