We didn't go to the Rose Bowl Parade

We went to the Tournament of Roses Parade, and a very fine parade it was.
The occasion was my grandmother’s 80th birthday. The family descended on Pasadena for three days in a motel that we don’t recommend but was conveniently located.

Thursday we had a great birthday dinner at Gale’s (fabulous Italian food). Friday we went to see the floats being made which is very cool and highly recommended. We talked to the people working on the floats, and admired the individually applied petals, moss, seeds and flowers. When we saw those floats in the parade next day we felt sense of ownership. We also sent two postcards via Cal Poly’s EleFun float – have you two received them yet?

Saturday we got up and trudged to our great grandstand seats, at the first corner of the parade. My favorite float was the Honda train, and I also really liked the CalTech/JPL float which had a robot made of 10 spacecraft that were operating in 2004.

Many bottles of Bushmill’s, and much chocolate later, we returned home.
