Cowes to Yarmouth

34313 Steps

20.58 km (but Nadya insists the pedometer is shortchanging us)

5 hours 29 minutes 7 seconds walking time

1372 calories

20 stiles

2 kissing gates

One major got lost event, where we got off the course, but the cows helped us find our way back.

We learned that Nadya protects Jim from dogs, sheep, and wild, man-eating ferns.   For everything else, Jim’s pretty much in charge of protecting Nadya.

Overheard on the trail:
Nadya: We’re going down?  We just went up.  That seems rather pointless.

Jim: You do realize we’re walking around an island?

Best T shirt slogan we’ve invented for our trip: Wight your own adventure.

Then, our path found, we emerged into the lovely town of Yarmouth, where the gribble worms are slowly eating the pier.   Our room and the B&B had the same sailing poster (“Navigare necesse est”) that Jim’s dad got for him many years ago, and a print of the same painting (“A Hopeless Dawn”) that Nadya insisted on having in her room as a teenager.

We went to a restaurant called On the Rocks for dinner where we got to cook  our dinners on hot volcanic rocks.  Yum.
