Today for a few hours the three sweetest words in the English language were “End Speed Zone.” I drove the Elise on the open road for the first time today. After an hour I was hot, sweaty, acutely aware that the car had not been designed for someone with Rubenesque hips, and had to pee. I didn’t want to stop; I was having too much fun.

May 17 is Constitution Day in Norway. It’s the essential National day holiday, like our 4th of July. One of my co-workers and his wife kindly asked me to join them to watch a parade and have lunch on the water. The day starts at 7 am with explosions. Gamalost – Page Two!

Friday at work, I casually mentioned to a group of Norwegian colleagues that I’d tried a new Norwegian food called Gamalost. After they stopped laughing, which took a while, they told me two important things: Gamalost means “Old Cheese” “It’s special, it’s for special people” Further inquiry (again, resulting in laughter) revealed that the people in their 50′s remember their parents eating this.
