Engine and Transmission Upgrade
The engine is still at the Jay’s but I’ve ordereda new transmission from SPComponents. I ordered theQuaffe close ratio 5 speed and a 4:11 to 1 rear gearset. In addition to the transmission I also orderedseveral clutch parts from British Auto Specialist.When I receive all the parts, I’ll post a complete parts list and a description of the conversion.
Track day and disaster
The Lotus Club Track day held at Portland International Raceway started as a very good day. With the new engine and suspension setup, the car (and me) where flying around the track. On the last morning session, the car started to spew water from the radiator overflow. I spoke with several of the local experts and Jay Ivey (the engine builder). New tires – Yokohama A032 175/60R-13 from Tire Rack. Align/reset toe from "a lot of toe in" to a reasonable 1/16". Centered steering wheel. Moved steering a lot closer to driver. Used to make a tiny rattle, now gone. Bracket that holds gas tank loose. Retightened. Notice some oil around differential where A-frame attaches. Cleaned up. Need to keep an eye on this.
